This is a very healthy snack and tastes delicious! The combination of masoor dal and spices is perfect! A spurt of lemon adds a tangy flavour to this dish. You can make this recipe in a giffy. Serve mixed with coriander leaves and coconut to further enhance the taste and flavour of the dal.
Apart from a high level of proteins, masoor dal also contains dietary fibre, Folate, vitamin B1, and minerals, all with virtually no fat. They are also a good source of potassium and iron.
1 cup masoor dal (split red lentil)
3 tbsp oil
2 chopped green chillies
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp mustard seeds
a few curry leaves
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
a pinch turmeric powder
1/4 tsp coriander powder
a pinch chilli powder
salt to taste
chopped coriander (dhania)
freshly grated coconut
- Soak the masoor dal for 2-3 hrs. Then drain and keep aside.
- Take a deep-pan and put oil in it. When the oil becomes hot add the mustard seeds, green chillies, curry leaves, hing, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and the soaked masoor dal.
- Cook for 15 to 20 minutes stirring occasionally till done.
- Transfer from kadhai to serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves and coconut.
