Oats Kheer/ Porridge

Being high in fibre, oats porridge makes a very filling and satisfying breakfast. The combination of oats, milk, kesar (saffron), and cardamom is one to die for! This porridge is very flavourful. It is as healthy as it is tasty, and makes a good dessert too! The chopped almonds add a crunch to this yummy porridge.

Oats absorbs extra fat and flushes it out of the system. Hence, it helps cure constipation and regulates gastro-intestinal functions. A diet that is rich in oats may also help stabilise blood glucose levels, which could help people with non-insulin dependent diabetes. Being a good source of calcium, it helps healthy development of bones and teeth.

Sesame seeds are a good source of essential fatty acids (EFA), these EFA’s are used in helping to maintain healthy skin.

Ingredients
1/2 cup oats
350 ml milk
1/2 tsp. cardamom powder
8 to 10 kesar (saffron) threads
1 and 1/2 tbsp. sugar/ according to taste
1 tbsp. roasted til (sesame seeds)
1 tbsp. chopped almonds

Method
1. Lightly roast the oats for 4-5 minutes on medium flame. Then, keep aside.
2. Take a deep pan and heat the milk. Add sugar, kesar, cardamom powder, roasted til (sesame seeds) and the roasted oats.
3. Cook for 3-4 minutes stirring occasionally. Garnish with almonds and serve immediately. Enjoy!
