Capsicum And Onion Chutney/Dip


This chutney/dip is extremely delicious and flavoursome. It instantly adds flavour to any other dish like rice, Indian breads, etc. The spices, the tempering and the capsicum and onion blend together to form the perfect accompaniment. This is a very famous dish in India.

As an antibacterial agent and stimulant, it helps normalise blood pressure, improve circulation, and increase the production of saliva and stomach acids to aid digestion.Increases your metabolic rate, i.e. helps to burn calories, thus effective for weight loss.It is high in Vitamin C. Capsaicin acts as an antioxidant, protecting the cells of the body from damage by harmful molecules called free radicals.

Onions are a very good source of vitamin C, chromium and dietary fiber. They are also a good source of manganese, molybdenum, vitamin B6, and folate, potassium, phosphorous and copper.Onion is said to possess expectorant properties. It has been used as a food remedy for centuries in cold, cough, bronchitis and influenza. Equal amount of onion juice and honey is beneficial.

1/2 cup finely chopped capsicum
1/4 cup finely chopped onions
2 green chillies
1 tbsp chopped coriander
salt to taste
a pinch turmeric powder
1 tbsp sesame seeds powder
1 tbsp powdered peanuts
1 tbsp oil

For The Tempering
1 tbsp oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
a pinch asafoetida
a pinch turmeric powder


  1. Heat the oil in a deep pan and add the capsicum, green chilli and onions and saute for 2 minutes and cook covered stirring occasionally till it becomes soft.
  2. Transfer in a blender and add the coriander ,salt, sesame seeds powder, groundnut powder and turmeric powder and grind roughly.
  3. Take it out in the serving bowl and pour tadka on it.
  4. Make tadka using tadka ingredients.
  5. Serve hot.
